***IMPORTANT ALERT: HUNTING SEASON TO BEGIN IN HARRIMAN STATE PARK***

This year, for the first time, there will be deer hunting in Harriman State Park. For your safety, please familiarize yourself with the schedule, the geographical area, and recommended precautions.

Hunting will be on weekdays only in November and December. Hunting will only be permitted in the northern section of the park, which includes Thendara. If you are at Thendara on a November or December weekday, you may hike from camp, but you might want to drive to the Sebago Boat Launch, Reeves Meadow Visitor Center, Tuxedo, or another trailhead in the southern, non-hunting, part of the park, to hike in a hunter-free area.

There will be a 500-foot no-hunting buffer around our camp property, with “Restricted Area” signs facing out for hunters to readily see. Hunting will be prohibited within 500 feet of buildings, shelters, camps, and parking lots, and within 150 feet of roads. Trails are considered safety zones where hunting is not allowed.

If you are in a hunting area on a hunting day, please wear something bright-colored—red, pink, or orange. Thendara is planning to have safety vests available to borrow, and red hats for purchase.

See this link for a park-wide map of hunting zones. There will be no hunting in the tan-colored areas not marked as Zones 1-5:
