The Thendara Mountain Club group camp is based in a rustic lodge overlooking Lake Tiorati and Hasenclever Mountain in Harriman State Park New York.
Thendara is a non-profit social club whose members enjoy hiking, boating, swimming, maintaining trails in Harriman State Park. Thendara was formed as a hiking club under it parent group the Green Mountain Club in 1916 as the NY Section GMC.
Our historic cabin, built in 1920, is used for dining, socializing, reading or enjoying a fire in the fieldstone hearth. Our 100 year old group camp cabin has a screened-in porch, sleeping rooms and a complete kitchen. The Thendara “bunkhouse” is a screened sleeping house available for year-round use. Thendara maintains a private swim dock, a boat dock and boat house on Lake Tiorati. Tent sites round out the overnight camping options.
Thendara Mountain Club is operated on a year-round, cooperative basis. TMC Members volunteer to host a weekend or midweek at the camp. The participants share the work of creating a meal and then enjoying the fruit of their labors. Friendships are formed while working side by side in the kitchen and breaking bread together.
Harriman State Park hiking trails start at our doorstep, and a short walk down the hill leads to Lake Tiorati.
Our Harriman Group Camp private facilities on Lake Tiorati include canoes, kayaks, sailboats, picnic area and a swimming area.
The winter season brings opportunities to hike, show shoe, cross-country ski, ice fish, ice skate or just relax by the fireplace.
An important part of our club is Trail Maintenance, keeping miles of trails in Harriman State Park accessible for hikers. Our members regularly mark blazes, cleanup and maintain over 10 miles of Harriman and Bear Mountain trails.
