You may have wondered why we stopped all Kayak and Sailboat operation just before Memorial Day?
I reviewed our insurance policy to verify compliance with our new lease and noticed our Kayaks and Sailboats were not covered by liability insurance. That meant if anyone was injured using those boats, their medical bills would not be paid by our insurance. Our agent confirmed this and at the board’s direction, he immediately began the process to insure the boats. It took some time to insure the boats therefore we were forced to prohibit their use during that period. Apparently, our boats may not been insured for a few years.
Please note our Insurance Liaison Beth Malone volunteered for her position after the current policy was written and had no input into the policy. I’m sure this year Beth will make sure we have a proper policy in place.
The cost to insure the boats until the policy expires in October is over $1000.00. The full year of insurance could possibly double our cost. Our agent will be looking at different insurance companies to find us the best possible price. Our agent will also find out if any certain boat is causing most of the increase.

Remember, we don’t have a paid staff, we all must pitch in and keep the camp running! It’s fun to use the boats, but we also need help maintaining them.
