Blue green algae has been identified in Lake Tioroti which has closed the public swimming beach. According to the park it is a very localized issue and has not affected our area of the lake. Our swimming and boating areas remain open at this time. We ask everyone to keep watch for the algae in the attached pictures. It is unclear if the algae can attach to boats but we strongly recommend that boaters remain local and not travel to the far side of the lake.
The algae can cause skin irritation, vomiting, diarrhea, eye irritation, cough, sore throat, and headache. If you come down with any of these symptoms after visiting the waterfront please notify a board member or the webmaster ASAP so we can take appropriate action which may include closing down our waterfront.
