MEMBERSHIP: The Thendara Mountain Club welcomes new members, over the age of 18, who wish to share in outdoor and conservation activities. Membership entitles the new member to the current year’s bulletins and the right to participate in scheduled day activities and hosted weekends. Individual Camp Thendara access may be obtained after the completion of safety and service workshops. At that time a gate key for the grounds may be purchased to be utilized at other than scheduled events.
HIKING: How often have you wanted to get out into the woods and just walk — enjoying nature and gaining health benefits? The Thendara Mountain Club is a small, congenial group of adults who are interested in hiking and outdoor activities. We sponsor year round hikes of varying lengths and difficulty throughout the Palisades Interstate Park and the greater metropolitan area. Our bulletin of activities is published four times a year. In addition, weekenders often form informal hiking groups for Sunday morning.
TRAIL MAINTENANCE: Many of our members are involved in maintaining various hiking trails throughout the Palisades Interstate Park. In cooperation with the New York – New Jersey Trail Conference, our club is responsible for over 35 miles of trails in Harriman State Park. Our organization firmly believes that we must actively participate in the preservation of the trail system that we all enjoy.
BOATING AND SWIMMING: Camp Thendara has two private docks located on Lake Tiorati. Our boat dock and boat house have a changing area and storage for our fleet of boats. Our new floating swim dock has ample seating for sunning on those warm summer days. The swim area is roped for you safety and all of the required safety equipment is available.
In addition to our recreational activities, the club contributes to many conservation groups. We are also actively involved in conservation projects such as tree planting and the Heritage Stewardship Program.
